Carter Finally Gets It (Part 4/5)

Alright so as I was finishing up all of my school work, I realized I had not typed one of my blogs. Therefore I looked back into my book to remember what exactly happened in the section. I will start of my post with a quote from Carter "Abby looked back at me with a tear running down her cheek, once again informing me of how stupid I am" (Kindle App) This quote captures the just of how Carter feels throughout the entirety of this section. Carter portrays a period of "down in the dumps" when he realizes that he hurt a girl that he really liked. Although he had so much else, he did not have the one thing he really wanted. We found out once again how much Carter vents his anger about the issue into sports. First, we witnessed him unleashing himself through football. Now, we see Carter releasing his angst via swim team. He starts out in the "big mans" shadow. He is number two on the swim team. But because this guy (Big Man) is dating Carter's Abby, Carter only wants to beat him. He works his butt off in this part of the book and ends up qualifying for state and beating him. Carter wins his dignity back. A theme emerges here; "With the will, one can accomplish that which was previously thought to be unachievable".

Carter Finally Gets It (Part 5/5)

Today is finally the day I write my last blog post. Overall, I can truly say that I enjoyed reading my book, Carter Finally Gets It. Watching Carter struggle with his issues of his identity made this book all the easier to relate with myself and friends of mine. Carter struggled with his will to express himself against the force of what peers find "cool". Carter wanted to become a thespian while he is also worried of what his friends would think "I'm almost as stressed about my boys finding out about the play as I am about learning all the lines, dance moves, and lyrics. My sister everyone under strict orders not to talk about the play to anyone, but it's difficult to keep something like this under wraps" (Kindle app). He is genuinely worried about his image in front of his friends. While showing his self-image issues, this sentence also clearly demonstrates Carter and his maturity that he has gained throughout the course of this book. At this point, Carter is nervous for his image but he would rather enjoy his high school career and do what he loves doing; The Spring Musical. The book ends on an ironic note. The entire book was a chase of Carter's lover, Abby. He tried to do everything to get that woman! (State Swimming, Varsity Football Team, Act Cool) In the end, by just being himself and doing what he legitimately liked to do, he won the girl. I liked the ending of the book and how all the characters turned out.

Carter Finally Gets It (Part 3/5)

Carter continues to expand his experiences in highschool. We enjoy watching Carter struggle between the right things to say to girls, and looking cool in front of the football team. On several occasions Carter makes the wrong choice and ends up embarrassing himself in front of his family, friends, and team mates! This plays a key role to the character development of Carter. We find out how shy and timid Carter truly is when all of his scheming and planning falls back down on him. Watching his whole family figure out how he played so many girls makes the reader almost feel pitter for Carter, but at the same time feel as though he is getting what he deserves. In my first post I stated that Carter was akward with the ladies, while this statement still stands, he subliminally became a woman guru. His sister explains to him the ways of the girl, and how they react when he does one thing verses another. I love watching him succeed and then fail again. Because of his new found talent with girl, Carter has the hotties all following him. HE IS THE MAN. As well as being a master of the ladies, Carter is the only freshman on the varsity football team. Even though he is only a kicker, his skills have shown to come a long way since the begining of the novel. He seems to follow the rules and commonly makes pacts of secrecy with his sister. It has truly been a pleasure watching him move forward in the novel and I cant hardly wait for his future in the book.

Carter Finally Gets It (Part 2/5)

This book keeps getting better and better. The main character, Carter, is finding out more and more everyday what high school is like. In the section (chapters 11-20) Carter learns more about female anatomy and his own urges. We follow him as he begins to experiment with girls and their new developing lady parts. I deeply enjoy reading his almost embarrassing stories about him. Carter is a lady-killer. In this section he tells one girl that he loves her (she says "I love you" back), followed by him asking another girl to the Homecoming dance. He tells his whole football team about his experience with "I love you girl" that he had during a movie. In the section, Carter also takes down the school bully which in turn causes him to be the biggest stud in all of the freshman class. Eventually his luck turns when both of the girls he played find out about each other, and the locker room incident. He is left no date to homecoming and a crying mess. It ends with his family finding out about all of his recent endeavors at school. I realize that I summerized parts of my novel but I feel as though, this section was just so outstanding that I could not just talk about one part. Carter goes from Zero to Hero in several days. He becomes the stud for a moment. But the old saying "easy come, easy go!" is very relevant here. Once again Carter is left a nobody. The novel continues to twist and turn. One never knows what is going to happen next.

Carter Finally Gets It (Part 1/5)

I am truly enjoying reading my novel thus far. I have read about a boy, Carter, living the most uncomfortable of situations that one could live in high school. The scenarios make the reader cringe his teeth with discomfort. These are the types of situations that make me want to skip because of the awkwardness and embarrassment I feel for Carter. He has a speech impediment and always studders in the presence of cute girls. The situations are easily relatable to other kids at our highschool here in Edina. I also appreciate how the author uses terms to describe different things. Ex: “letters stretched across her chest” “could not make out the panty line of her short shorts”. One can tell strictly from these terms that this is a novel targeted towards teenage boys.
It is enjoyable to watch Carter develop his social skills so far as he makes his way through his freshman year. You can clearly see him becoming more and more comfortable around girls. It puts a smile on your face to see this boy have huge issues with girls at the beginning of the novel and end up kissing her towards the end of this part. At first he has issues “Don’t chicken out, Carter” (671-675 on Kindle) he repeats to himself but later he finds himself “I feel the craziest thing in my mouth. A wet piece of sponge of… tongue? A TONGUE has entered my mouth!”(675-678 on Kindle). He clearly finds his inner lion and gains the courage to accomplish his mission. I really love watching this character develop. So far this book has been a really fun read.
