I am truly enjoying reading my novel thus far. I have read about a boy, Carter, living the most uncomfortable of situations that one could live in high school. The scenarios make the reader cringe his teeth with discomfort. These are the types of situations that make me want to skip because of the awkwardness and embarrassment I feel for Carter. He has a speech impediment and always studders in the presence of cute girls. The situations are easily relatable to other kids at our highschool here in Edina. I also appreciate how the author uses terms to describe different things. Ex: “letters stretched across her chest” “could not make out the panty line of her short shorts”. One can tell strictly from these terms that this is a novel targeted towards teenage boys.
It is enjoyable to watch Carter develop his social skills so far as he makes his way through his freshman year. You can clearly see him becoming more and more comfortable around girls. It puts a smile on your face to see this boy have huge issues with girls at the beginning of the novel and end up kissing her towards the end of this part. At first he has issues “Don’t chicken out, Carter” (671-675 on Kindle) he repeats to himself but later he finds himself “I feel the craziest thing in my mouth. A wet piece of sponge of… tongue? A TONGUE has entered my mouth!”(675-678 on Kindle). He clearly finds his inner lion and gains the courage to accomplish his mission. I really love watching this character develop. So far this book has been a really fun read.

This book sounds really funny! I like how you can really relate what goes on in our everyday high school lives to this book. I really like books where you can relate that closely to it. I wonder what will happen to Carter throughout the rest of this book? Will he continue to gain social skills or will he plumet back to where he was to begin with?
ReplyDeleteI agree with what DJdynasty3000 said, nice job relating it to your every day life. This books sounds great. I wonder if Carter will actually finally get it in the end?
ReplyDeleteSo far this sounds like a great book. I liked how you related it to your everyday life, and it will be interesting to see how Carter changes as the book progresses.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with what Djdynasty3000 said about how good of an idea it was to related it to real life. I especially liked the quote that you chose because that single quote can describe many teenage boy's minds. My question to you is, Do you think that Carter will ever get over his fear of cute girls? If so, What event might make this happen?
ReplyDeletethe awkwardness really reminds me of your composure around girls...jk doggy but this book sounds hilarious! I kinda wish that i had read it. Quick question bro...On a scale of one to ten how hot is the girl that carter kisses based on descriptions in the book?
ReplyDeleteI don't think Ms B-side will apresiate some of the detail in the post. The book sounds interesting. How does he kiss a girl if he can't even talk to one?
ReplyDeleteWell-written post, Timmy. Joel is right--I rolled my eyes at some of the details you included, but I *suppose* I can live with it because you used them to establish the awkwardness of the character. I think you are right on target about who the implied reader for this novel is, too.
